Recruitment procedures

Applicants for ABYSS job positions will be selected on their potential for scientific excellence and adaptability to work in a multicultural environment. Recruitment will be a transparent, open and equal process following the guidelines of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

Applicants must provide a CV , a letter of application (1 or 2 pages, explaining the reasons for the applicant’s interest in the position, his/her vision of the project and its scientific objectives, and his/her most relevant skills or experiences for the position), two recommendation letters (describing the learning, research and communication skills, independence and motivation of the candidate), academic credentials (mark sheets and degree statements) and a list of publications.

The deadline for application is December 1, 2014.

A recruitment committee (including ABYSS scientific coordinator, the ESR and/or ER supervisors at host institutions and at secondment institutions) has been set for each PhD (ESR) and Postdoctoral (ER) position. Its role is to ensure that the procedure follows the recruitment criteria of scientific excellence.

ESR/ER will be selected by the supervisors following the Rules of recruitment of their Host Institution and in conformity with the guidelines of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers . Each position will be filled once the right candidate has been found.
If no satisfactory candidates are found for a given project after the first call for positions, the vacant position will be re-advertised following the same rules and procedure.
At the end of the recruitment process, unsuccessful applicants will be addressed an official letter stating the recruitment guidelines and the reason(s) why their applications have not been chosen.
