Barbara Zihlmann

Barbara is a Swiss PhD student at the University of Southampton. She got her BSc and MSc degree in Geology and Geochemistry at the University of Bern (Switzerland). For her master thesis she was working on trace element distribution before and after the antigorite breakdown reaction of contact metamorphosed serpentinites in Valmalenco, Italy. During her master studies as well as after that she worked as a junior research assistant at the Institute of Geological Sciences in Bern where she mainly performed mineral analysis using x-ray powder diffraction. She also did an internship in a research laboratory of Holcim Technology Ltd. Her contribution to Abyss will focus on deep hydrothermal circulation and its implication on cooling the lower part of newly formed oceanic crust at mid-ocean ridges.
